Tangible benefits. Delivering a project with a lasting outcome so I can say ‘I did that’. It does not have to a big or flashy project, but knowing I have understood the construction and issues and done the best I can gives me real pride.
I relish the ‘duel’ that is dilapidations and the immediacy of dealing with a fellow surveyor which thankfully results in a clear outcome in most cases, even if some take longer than others. That is however what keeps it interesting as everyone approaches the dilapidations negotiations differently, so even very similar claims on paper can be totally different in practice.
I am renovating our first house with my wife which I am sure will be ongoing for many years and this post still valid for a while. Doing a ‘project’ at home is not quite the same as the day job when the ‘client’ is less willing to accept my professional opinion! Apparently, I know nothing about design.
My weekends are also full of activity, whether it’s catching up on neglected friends and family, chasing hobbies, or simply seeking out the next adventure.
