Dilapidations. Every case is different, whether it be representing the Landlord or Tenant. Getting my client a fair outcome by offering the best tactical solutions brings with it a new challenge every time, which keeps things interesting. I like to think I can cut through the jargon and give sound commercial advice, tailored to the specific, let’s say it, dispute in hand.
In a sadistic sort of way I enjoy the analytical process of reinstatement cost assessments. It’s not glamorous but a vital process and like dilapidations there is no ‘correct’ answer. You are using available data to build a case to arrive at a particular outcome.
Working on historic buildings. “They don’t build them like they used to”…. just as well given some of the buildings I have managed works on. In most cases however, where a building was built properly, specifying the traditional repair techniques which are sympathetic to the building and restore it to a former glory, is very satisfying.
These days I spend most of my time trying to brainwash my two young boys that my hobbies are the way forward, mainly mountain biking or generally anything on two wheels. “That hill looks a bit scary daddy”…. “you’ll be fine son, crack on”, that sort of thing. It’s a slow burn.
Buying LPs has long been a vice, and when disposable income allows, searching out 90s vinyl, grunge, shoegaze, rock and trip hop tend to be on the wish list.
