Do you need another specialist?

ESG, sustainability, carbon commitment, carbon reduction …. the list keeps growing of nouns for ways to save the planet and the range of methods to measure and benchmark these objectives keeps growing also, as do the specialist consultants to carry out the assessment methods.

At Powell Williams we do not provide any specialist assessment ratings. We do however use are broad building surveying and project management experience to cut through all the jargon and fog to help clients understand what they need to do to achieve their stated goals. We work closely with various assessment and allied professionals and co-ordinate the assembled team who we challenge throughout the sustainability journey to allow us to distil down clear and succinct recommendations that our clients can understand and make decisions on, armed with a full understanding of the practicality, cost and benchmark improvement of any intervention option.

You may know where you want to get, but do you really know where you are starting from?

The key to any improvement process is to fully understand the starting point and have robust data on which to start the journey. This may mean re-doing previous assessments which may have been completed more as a ‘tick box’ process instead of drilling down and ensuring the input data is as robust as possible. Assessment software changes over time also. Only once the starting point has been clearly established can a route to achieving the desired outcome be plotted and miss-informed capital expenditure avoided – that’s where our skill comes in.

How to make it happen

Once a clear strategy has been agreed to achieve the desire outcome, how does it become reality? You could just throw it at a friendly contractor and say “I need some air source heat pumps fitting, give me a price and crack on”. The reality is that not all air source heat pumps, or other interventions, are made equally and there is a risk that the desired outcome will be missed as a result of the detail being missed.

We can follow the technical thread to ensure that the planned outcomes are achieved through the project delivery phase with regular ‘sense checks’ carried out at key stages to avoid surprises at the end. We also guide the project through associated regulatory or lease requirements that may apply to deliver a fully compliant solution, which may otherwise be overlooked.
