Tia is continuing a family tradition by working in property, following her landlord mum and surveyor uncle into the industry. Having enjoyed all aspects of surveying during her MSc and work placements, she was looking for a full service firm with a broad client base, including investment funds, asset managers, developers, and blue chip occupiers.

APC Mentor
As a young woman entering the sector, Tia was drawn to Powell Williams by the success of Natasha Tyler, the RICS Young Building Surveyor of the Year 2016, who is an associate in the London office. Natasha will be her mentor and provide support during Tia's APC training period, alongside London partner Darren Ward.

Tia said:
"I enjoyed my MSc very much and am looking forward to developing my knowledge and gaining experience of client work as part of an extremely busy practise. I'll be learning from some hugely well respected surveyors in the senior partners, and I'm also really excited to be working with Natasha Tyler. She's done so much in such a short time, winning a national award and becoming an associate so young, and is an example for anyone starting out in this profession."

Tia will assist a team working on a range of instructions, which include acting as project managers, employer's agent and contract administrator for new developments, and providing traditional due diligence, party wall and dilapidations advice for owners and occupiers. She will shadow senior staff over the coming months before taking more responsibility as her experience grows.

Recognising talent
Darren Ward, said:
"We're proud of having a great track record in recognising talent and developing our graduate recruits into expert building surveyors, and we're very pleased to welcome Tia into the programme. We're also very pleased that she chose Powell Williams as the firm she wanted to work with and we welcome that enthusiasm."

"Role models are important for young people coming into any industry and Tia won't find any better than Natasha, who is a smart and dedicated client advisor, setting an excellent example for the next generation of young surveyors. She'll be introducing Tia to our clients and helping her to build the knowledge and relationships needed to take on projects of her own and secure her chartership as soon as possible."
