Cool contract for Powell Williams

Powell Williams will assess and advise on the use of an empty 25,000 sq ft space under the indoor ski slope at the Chill Factore in Trafford, Manchester. It is expected significant construction work would be required to enclose the space, which is currently external.

The practice has been appointed to advise by longstanding client Blue Marble, part of the Pemberstone Group of Companies with Pemberstone being one of the major shareholders.

Powell Williams will undertake a feasibility study and cost analysis to determine the necessary work any tenant would have to undertake prior to developing the space.  The practice will then assume a development monitoring role to ensure all the work carried out is in line with recommendations.

David Heatherington, senior partner from Powell Williams, will manage the project from the firm's Birmingham office with support from the Chester team. He said: "This is quite a unique space and its development throws up a lot of interesting challenges. Temperature control, insulation and ventilation are obviously vitally important and the work we have undertaken will inform any future tenant of their obligations to the rest of the building."

 Chill Factore

Morwenna Angove, Chief Executive of Chill Factore, said: "Chill Factore is continuing to celebrate sustained growth and has established itself as one of Manchester's premier leisure attractions. We are always considering ways to increase our offering and improve the visitor experience.  This empty space was identified as wasted space and we were keen to understand the potential for its use. Following the completion of Powell Williams' feasibility study, we are able to open negotiations with potential tenants and are confident any development of the space will be professionally and expertly handled."

Chill Factore has the UK's longest and widest real snow indoor ski slope, a rock climbing wall, toboggan run and children's snowplay area. The activities are complemented by a range of premium retailers, bars and cafes in an Alpine-themed street.
